Can't knurl or chamfer a surface

jason_angus572jason_angus572 Member Posts: 14

Hello, Noob here. I am trying to create my first project after doing some training and test projects. I was able to easily knurl surfaces and chamfer edges, but now I have a surface on a cylinder that will not let me do either. Please help.

It's always easier to help with a link to public document! :)

I went back and recreated the project and added the chamfer and knurl earlier in the project. Now I am having problems extruding a 1.25 wide by .05 area on the bottom. When I go to do the extrusion and hit remove, it turns red.

You will need to make the document public via the share button for anyone to view or copy.

Ok, I still can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Im sure it is a simple adjustment, but I need some direction. I created the project again, and after printing my removed threads stuck out a little on the lid. So I tried to enlarge my sketch 1 from 1.25 to 1.35 and it changes the knurling to be slightly inside my cylinder (at 1.25) and only shows the outside edge of it. I removed the knurling and recreated it on that sketch and it still comes out the same. I did share it to public and would appreciate your time in figuring it out. Thanks, Jason

You have three copies of your part!

Change your circular patter to "add"

the weirdest thing is…..When I changed the diameter of the lid (built the same process) it changes just fine when extending the diameter .10 inches

For some reason the link is just a blank page. Also I cannot sign in right now. I wonder if the Onshape server is being repaired.

Ok, that worked , Thank you. Can you please explain to me how the circular pattern for the helix on the inside Diameter effects the outside diameter. So I can better understand the reason to try and avoid these mistakes in the future. Thank you for taking the time to respond. Also, Should I generally name each step of a part when I create projects?

And please expain how I have 3 copies and where I went wrong? Thanks

  • jason_angus572jason_angus572 Member Posts: 14

Ok So I have the 2 parts that are basically the same with the exception of one having a .05 recess in the bottom forcreating a name badge to add later. That specific one did not change. The knurling is still the incorrect one. I followed the same steps as the other part and it fixed it on there, but not this one.

I figured it out. I deleated that knurling and then recreated it, and that worked. Thanks
