A re-introduction

Hello Onshape Users,

You may have noticed me being around these parts over the last 15+ months.  I'm happy to say I can be involved a lot more now, as I’ve joined the PD/UX/Support/Community team here at Onshape.  I’m excited to help serve you and Onshape for the best of all our interests.

A little bit about myself:  I value efficiency.  That’s what business operations are ultimately about… delivering more value with less input.  Time is perhaps our most valuable resource.  As I get older I respect that more and more in all spheres of life.  I love good tools.  Good tools really make you want to do more of what you love to do, and be excited to do it.  These are the core reasons and I see them as almost inseparable.  I like to push myself and be pushed… physically, mentally, etc… it keeps us fresh and grounded, humble and hungry.  What better place than Onshape for that to happen, and here within the community of users in these very forums.

For the last 14.5 years I’ve been primarily a design engineer working on rugged industrial equipment in harsh environments and also highly reliable military products.  In addition I have been a down in the trenches user of MCAD and related products. My first priority had always been new product design, wearing a lot of different hats in a design and manufacturing environment.  One large hat was related to all the duties involved with using MCAD and related products.  Over the years I began to see the burden of what I now call legacy products and the high demand they place on people like us to sort through all the oddities and keep their platforms running internally.  For most of us, we are designers and design engineers primarily, but we feel the strong tug-of-war on us to do that with the best tools possible.  Because of my curiosity and my experiences I naturally gravitated to playing around with cloud based systems and tools.  I began to see the power of their platforms and the massive increases in efficiency they could provide.  Onshape represents this platform change with all the new capabilities it can bring.

I’m excited beyond words to channel my inner engineer, CAD, and efficiency geek to help you do far more as designers, engineers, and consumers of the information that get’s created.  Onshape has expressed its corporate desires for open and candid dialogue.  Please continue to help us get that right with Onshape and with me personally, pushing us to deliver an awesome tool to maximize your efficiency and increase your affection for the things you design and manufacture with it.

All the Best!

    Congratulations Pete!

I'm so happy for you, and me because this means you're more likely to continue to answer my dumb questions!

But seriously, looks like OS has been collecting the talent (which explains why I didn't get a call LOL) and you'll be rolling with their big boys! You are very lucky to be able to contribute to what is no doubt going to be an industry shaker. I feel that once people see what is possible with WebGL / cloud, many other startups will follow. I don't mean startups in CAD, but also gaming, maybe film/TV editor software, special FX rendering, 3D animation software, architecture design software. Once others see what is possible in vector gpx in a browser, others will want to be first out the door for their idea as well.

Thanks everyone.  I have something to offer and a lot to learn.  It's really fun working with such capable and thoughtful people.  I see you all here in that same light, too.  Please help make me better so that I can help you be more productive.

Very good Pete! We are really same minded what you mentioned about efficiency and productivity. It doesn't matter how nice and high-tech tools you have if they are not getting the work done, Onshape has a good sense about doing more with less.

I wish you best of luck with your new job and also successful new year to whole Onshape team.

    Really awesome, Pete!  :)

It's funny how much your story reminds me of my journey/transition to Luxion (KeyShot) mid 2015. You got to do what the heart tells you to do... ;)

Best of luck and keep having fun!
