We need a better way to change the primary direction that a slide moves

On the mates (e.g. Slide Mate), surely there ought to be a way of changing the primary directly of the slide other than
a) flipping BOTH parts (by using the sub menu items)
b) using negative numbers
[Note: I needed to demo the slide to a client and I spend over an hour trying to figure this problem out... and failed! Eventually forum members showed me the solution. But surely this needs a better / more obvious solution]
