Part Imports as surfaces

shai_perednikshai_perednik Member Posts: 56 ✭✭
I'm trying to import the "mosquito cad" file from https://www.sliceengineering.com/documentation.   But when I import into onshape it comes in as surfaces w/ no parts.  Any ideas whats going on?

my doc @ https://cad.onshape.com/documents/223146bb463c991c77f7e75c/w/402b902059b2d8c1f282cc00/e/caaab11af1447f9b68150fee

fusion 360 sees the bodies as expected.  Any ideas would be appreciated!

In this part e.g. there are several cylindrical patches missing

Might be a processing issue on our side. I don't know if in Fusion 360 terminology Body necessarily means solid body. May be those patches are missing there as well.

Just checked out the doc. Using my Fill gaps custom feature you can easily identify holes in imported surfaces and repair them:

This tool worked quite well on your imports!

thx @TimRice !  It worked on the the radiator part your showing.  But I couldn't get it to work on any of the other parts in that import.  here's the doc I was trying it in

Yes unfortunately it does not work in all cases. Since the feature only accepts one input a set of surfaces like the example below will not work:

Instead you will have to manually use the Fill or Loft features to bridge the gap between the inner and outer surfaces.

@shai_perednik - it looks to me like your Fusion360 screenshot is showing "surface bodies" and not actual "solid bodies". I know that probably doesn't help much, but to me, it would indicate that the issue is not with Onshape, rather whatever created or exported the model.
