howto to extrude intersecting shapes of a sketch into one part?

Hello,

howto to extrude intersecting shapes of a sketch into one part?

Although the shapes are intersecting, Onshape produces 2 parts.
Two extrusions, the second one with option 'Add' does not work either?!
I am also not able to union these two parts into one (Error: the parts do not intersect or are totally contained).

What am i doung wrong?

regards
Wolfgang

If you look closely you will see the corners of the square are not selected - select those and it will intersect.

    Hello Neil,

    do i understand correctly?

When selecting the rectangle it selects only the parts of the rectangle that do not intersect with the ring.
When selecting the ring it selects only the parts of the ring that do not intersect with the rectangle.

So, Onshape does not regard the rectangle/ring as an object.
Using Extrude, Onshape just looks for a closed shape?!

    regards
    Wolfgang

Correct - Onshape uses regions and any inner regions are holes. There are 10 regions in your sketch.
