SPLIT SURFACES? PARTS? HOW TO

larry_haweslarry_hawes Member Posts: 478 PRO
Can't seem to find a way to split surfaces or parts to achieve a simple goal. Hopefully the video is not too confusing, but I would like end up with 2 parts, the outside shell and the inner piece which I can then thicken, or thicken first? Stumped...

Thanks

Thank you Bradley for the clear explanation. I had a feeling that sketch 2 was not placed/constrained correctly but I was under the false impression that PARTS were PARTS and SURFACES were SURFACES and never the twain shall meet.

"Since these are surfaces the part vs face split is a little confusing." Indeed, when splitting surfaces using the PART split tool even though there are no PARTS, only SURFACES, the command is truly a bit downright confusing. It became quite easy with Sketch 2 corrected and using PART split on the SURFACES. Learned a valuable tool but it does seem a confusing tool combination..

    Thanks again.

...and splitting faces (which seems logical since they are surfaces) is not the preferred or an optional method why? Looks like that works but neither method works with Sketch 2 not coincident.

Hopefully the accepted answer leaves room for another challenge within the same document, if not I'll post a new thread.

Video should be clear and again I'm missing a simple tool I am sure...

Good exercise @larry_hawes and thanks for explanation @bradley_sauln

Larry - I saw you were trying thicken and that does not give correct edges.  Here is an example using Boolean plus 1 FS, Enclose, and Shell.

Nice Bruce, don't understand the Boolean Plus 1 FS, where to find it, or how to insert it, but it seems to be the tool I was looking for. So nice to see such different approaches, very helpful. Is the Boolean Plus FS ready for prime time? Couldn't seem to find/insert in to my docs?

In Add Custom Features - Community Spotlight - search for 'boolean' and it comes up as Boolean Plus Surfaces
