Extruding Issue

Does anyone know why my 'Extrude 4' won't work in this document? I don't understand the conflict.

    Where the extrude meets Part 4, it creates a knife-edge (otherwise known as non-manifold geometry or geometry with zero volume) which is not permitted. If you were to construct this out of wood (for example) Part 4 would not be all one piece, it would be an assembly of parts, so you should use the “new” option in Extrude 4.
