Create new Part, In Context

famadorianfamadorian Member Posts: 390 ✭✭✭
If I end up creating a new part, when I'm editing some part in context, is there any way to insert it also? ..or do I have to create mate connectors and import the part in the assembly the normal route?

You will need to insert the part and mate it as normal.

If the part is relative to the in-context part, then you should be able to simply insert it and use "group" mate with the other in-context part.

Yes, the new part is relative to the in-context part, but how can I use this "group mate"?;)

This is something you select when inserting?

Group mate is about the middle of the toolbar.

Click that, then start selecting parts you want to mate together.

    Just don't select assemblies.

    You mean this "group"?

The way I understand this group button is after I've inserted something in the assembly, using it on a few parts, they can move together, but it doesn't help me with the initial positioning of the part?

There is a "Composite Part" in Part Studio, but there is no way to replace the part with a composite part in the assembly.

Another option is a boolean union, but I'd like to keep my parts separate.

Group mate was a suggestion to make it easier to insert your 'new part made in context' to save steps when mating adjacent parts from the same part studio.

The answer was you need to insert and mate it as you would normally.
In-context just gives you a reference model to build off of
