Problems Importing .step files to document

Hello,
I am trying to import a .step file into a parts studio, but am having some trouble.
To import the file, I click the plus on the bottom corner of the screen, then click import, select the file, and then import it. Once the file has been imported, a folder called "CAD Imports" is generated. Inside this folder is the step file, still in file form, no part studio.
I have tried to follow some tutorials step by step, but even when I do so, a parts studio is not generated.
Please tell me what I am doing wrong.
