Re: Philadelphia Onshape User Group meeting tomorrow - Surfacing
I have learned new skills and productivity tips at every OS user group meeting that I have attended, and this one certainly did not disappoint. Thanks Vince! Your expert insight into surface modeling was incredibly helpful for me. Using Delete-Face and Enclose to dance back and forth between solids and surfaces was… -
Re: Internal key slot in cylinder
Here is another way of doing this. As Neil mentioned, you cannot sketch on a curved surface. BUT you can start a new sketch on an OFFSET PANE that touches the curved surface. Here's how: Step 1: Find the diameter of your shaft, D/2 = radius which will be the distance of the offset pane. Step 2: Create a new pane offset to… -
Re: Side project : 3d printed camera sreen loupe (public project)
Finished printing the first iteration, the hinge design did not work out at all, I underestimated the needed clearance for the printing process. So I worked on a different simpler design (V2 now) Also the Arca Swiss plate design I found online was not working out with the clamps I own so I had to increase the dovetail… -
Re: Mating a part to multiple other components
I have found working with these channels requires getting comfortable with modifying (offsets and re-align) the mate connectors created by the mates (i.e. after creating the mate, video at bottom for more details). If you used the frame tool, you might be able to add an explicit connector to one of the frame parts… -
Re: Cutting Profiles
The method I chose was to create one piece of the block in a part studio. I then selected the Linear Pattern tool to multiply the piece. (This is assuming your pieces are of equal width. If not they can be aligned piece by piece using Transform by Mate Connector. Probably better to have created a sketch with the piece… -
Re: Swept Profile Boolean Subtract
Separate configured partstudios by type seems the way to go in my opinion. Create a base model of each Type: Drawer, Cabinet Frame, Sink, etc. Configure some length width heights for each (or whatever is relevant). Then derive those into a partstudio with superderive (which can snap your parts into position in the same… -
Re: Help finish a box with lid
Hell, looking good to me. Unfortunately you cannot add a boss-extrude (extrude-add) to a sheet-metal part. so the snap on feature will be a challenge. You will need to include the profile of the sheet metal clip in the front (I assume that's what you mean by joggle) in the main sheet metal feature of the lid. Which means… -
Re: filled surface to create elliptical cap
Hi all, I am quite new to CAD and OnShape (only a few weeks under my belt), and have been having decent luck with getting some ideas I have drawn out (lots of trial and error). I am currently working on an elliptical cap like the examples by @jakeramsley and @andrew_troup, and have used a copy of the sketch from Andrew's… -
Re: ...avoid replacing ALL downstream references in timeline?!?
Yep, this is a pain for sure. I think at this point, you're painted into a corner, but there are some techniques to use next time to make things more stable: * Reference the import as little as possible - For example, set up some variables for the height, width, and depth, and use them preferentially over referencing… -
Re: Efficient way to "re-align" a vector?
@Evan_Reese Yep, that's it! Thank you! It makes perfect sense (now that I know the answer...): I know that cSys.xAxis is the direction I want so I just need to make it the length I need! I think I briefly tried this but gave up when I saw that cSys.xAxis was just (1,0,0) and I thought well that's not helpful... But I think…
