In our semester-long makerspace course, I upload the entirety of our 6th grade class at the beginning of the school year in early September. Many invitations seem to get dropped by semester 2 in late January, so I usually upload everyone again.

We also have a rotation of multiple machines in the course, and students start a different spots in the rotation. For students beginning 3D printing now in mid-May, I'm finding more student invitations have been dropped.

If there is an expiration date for invitations, I just need to know so that I can plan for it. If not, any ideas why student invitations are getting dropped from the system?

Thanks so much for any insight!

I am tearing my hair out (and there isn't much to tear out). Students seem to default to my "Mr Knox" folder as the default working folder. They create a document that the entire class can see and then have access to. Students are then working, changing, and submitting a document that isn't their personal document. Yes, some know, but others are simply baffled by the fact that this magically changing document they didn't create, isn't their document. This has been an issue the last two assignments where I have allowed students to create their own documents instead of creating a new document in assignments. I have been telling students to click on "owned by me" BEFORE working on a document. I just wish there was a way to hide the "Mr Knox" folder to students entirely. Once the student creates an assignment, they also have the issue of other students getting in and changing things or deleting the document. This part has been an absolute mess.

I've been using the classes and mostly love the ability to have students submit assignments through the system. I've been having a couple of issues and I'm not sure of the solution. When I create an assignment using one of the Onshape lessons, I copy it to my documents. The issue is that by default it puts them into the shared space "Mr. Knox" at the top level of my file space. ALL of the students automatically have edit privileges' for these docs. I had a couple of students try to access the document through the main panel and not through classes. They changed the document and changes showed up in the link in the assignment. So the link is not static, and students can change what is in the assignment. What is the best way to control what students can see and how they have access to the documents?

Currently, when creating assignment's it is left in a Draft state untill [Publish assignment] is selected. I believe it would be useful to be able to schedule the assignment with a Date and Time picker. The Picker should include NOW, or Date and time

With that, a Close assignment scheduler would also be helpful. Like the Publish scheduler, it should include NOW (If Active) or Date and Time, For a bounse, maybe a timer option to set for HH:MM after published.

Hello team

The CAM Studio is an amazing addition which I was waiting for. But sadly, it is not for educators and students yet.

I am now in a situation for which I really need to do 3D and even 4D CAM processing, but I struggled finding something I can use. My faculty is pushing me to buy a license for Fusion 360 because it would be the same if we buy a licence for a CAM, but I don't want that and cannot afford it in my center either.

Please, open it to Education as well

Should I be creating my document first and then somehow copying this to be uploaded as the assignment file or do I still have to create a new file for myself that mirrors the shared template?

I have some students who have clicked 'submit' at the end of a first lesson using this new system, how do I 'un-submit' this work to allow them to continue to work in the file?

Do I still need to load the students in vias a csv file as 'users' or does adding them via 'csv' to the class list automatically invite them to the school's enterprise area?

Is there ever going to be a CFD add on for us as schools that is included in the enterprise option?

Thanks all

I believe it would be useful if there were a way an educator could export a classroom to share with colleagues and other educators. If I set up a training or classroom with assignments and documents as assets, it would be nice to be able to share this without the need for the other educator to rebuild the classroom and assignments.

This would be similar to the Clone Class but would need to export the metadata and resource files to share. I suspect this would require a way to bind the resource files to the Class vs currently they are in a general folder in the Educators Account.

Hello,

I am moving my classes from AutoCAD to Onshape and was wondering how you guys go about grading the assignments. I have seen from some people like totalltoby that they use the mass method but I want to make sure that they are putting holes and slots in the right place as well without having to go and pull up each and every single drawing and measure them out myself. Any and all help is appreciated it. Thank you.

v/r,

Joe

Good Morning,

I am trying to set up the classroom to use in my upcoming class as last term we started using CAD but instead of using the classroom feature we just had each student create a folder and share it with the instructor. I have been able to set up assignments and that is coming along nicely but as I add more and more to the classroom I started realizing there is not really a solid way to organize them. Is there maybe a folder that I can create in there to group things by classroom or even day?

Also I was wondering if there was a way to add a specific open and close date and or time, or do I have to go in and manually turn assignments off and on to achieve that. I don't want the students to work ahead and when I did this with autocad in my LMS I would have the assignments turn on the day I wanted them to and then have them close when they were due so nothing could be added after that time. Thank you.

-Joe

The short version is that there's an assignment that has students insert a cam into a premade assembly and use the tangent mate to make the cam move a follower shaft up and down. With how it currently is, they both get sent to the middle of the axle that it's turning on. For convenience sake I told them to supress one cam so they can simulate the motion of the other, but this is making it hard for me to go in and see if they got it to work with both cams.

Is there any way to edit the supression features, or some sort of work around?

Hello instructor community! As usual, the latest Onshape update is full of awesome improvements and new features. But today’s update is particularly exciting for educators. As of today, all Education Enterprise subscribers will see a big new feature called Classes & Assignments.

As a former STEM and CAD teacher, this is the feature I always dreamed of. The goal is to make distributing and collecting student CAD assignments easier than ever before. With Classes & Assignments, you can assign work to an entire class of students through Onshape with the push of a button. And all of their work, as well as helpful analytics, is organized in a slick new interface. Definitely go check it out!

If you have any questions, feedback, or ideas please reply to this post. We can’t wait to hear from you.
