dimension mirroring

Hi all. Hope you're having as much fun as I am here. Got a starter question so sorry if this has been covered a billiion times. Am trying to draw a shape whose name I don't know but it has uneven sides. When I do dimensions for a rectangle, if i do dimensions on one side, its automatically mirrored to the opposite side……
