How to substract two overlapping shapes
Hi all, I am brand new to Onshape, coming from Sketchup, and trying to wrap my head around it. I am following the tutorials but I have not been able to solve this. I am making a 3d printed adaptor funnel for an air pump, using the revolve feature (the main shape in the image). I am trying to add 2 rings to it so I can attach a piece of string to it. However, the rings protrude into the funnel. Is there a way to get rid of the parts inside the funnel, by using some sort of boolean operator?
Answers
Yes. Boolean has this functionality. You could also just delete the faces inside (if they are already one part).
Read about how to share documents in Onshape learning section. That'll help you much, because it helps the helpers. ;0)
Too bad we can't get the forum to make that suggestion (doc sharing) on newcomers for like the first 50 posts or something like that. haha

Wow, thanks so much for the quick response. Sorry about my noob screenshot, here's the link to the original document: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/52ab40d2dee3c7473062f0b9/w/0e1751bed69065943165fdf0/e/3cbc9e3f2ab0c9ae906a2159?renderMode=0&uiState=6775a86304ccd236236e7d73.
I think that the rings are not a seperate part just yet. I'll look into that tomorrow. After seeing some more more tutorials, I thought maybe to make another revolve feature using the same sketch as for the funnel, and then subtract it from the rings?
To avoid the protrusion in the first place… in the extrude feature. your sketch should contain an arc to match the outer surface of the funnel along with your hole circle and just extrude a solid… so that you have the option of selecting only the area outside the funnel to be extruded.
However there is nothing wrong with how you did it and can just use delete face tool to eliminate the protrusion prior to mirror.
