Cutting a pocket into a curved face

Very new to OnShape and CAD in general.... I am trying to cut a small pocket onto the top of this curved piece. I want to remove to follow the very slight curve of the button as a place to index your finger. This would keep the depth the remove uniform across the whole pocket. Picture for reference. I know this is a simple answer and i think my problem is i dont know the correct words to describe my problem and search for it

BTW. your sketch2 is an ellipse. i would recommend extruded surface from a curved line in sketch 2 (overbuilt) to split part 1. then later put a fillet on the edge. now you're creating a log of unneccesary tension in the top surface.
moreover I tried an extrude from sketch3 with a second extrude direction. (look at my V2: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/f847b45e4b8dd13f24768e3f/v/4c83b6543a45280a45bd8adc/e/35447f86bfbd9d977a126f17?renderMode=0&uiState=660185139dfaa005989bd1de).
this only works if sketch 2 is not an ellipse

Context: Its a button for a water bottle. I still need to hollow out the inside, but the top has a shallow pocket as an index point for where your finger should push down on the bottom half of the button. Thats the part I'm struggling with; to make a shallow recess that follows the slight contour of the top.0 -

Sketching to the mate connector works for sketching on that plane, but it doesn't allow me to extrude to the contour of the top.

@john_lopez that looks great! what tools did you use to create the pocket? I was able to get it to work with the split that jelte suggestedjohn_lopez363 said:0 -
@peter_pawlak. I too used a Split feature and then a Move Face. Believe that was what was presented above by jelte.
