Why can't I delete an imported DXF?

kevin_krumwiedekevin_krumwiede Member Posts: 14

I'm playing around with creating my own document template, following the procedure in Best Practices for Creating Onshape Drawing Templates - Onshape Learning Center. An imported DXF appears as a tab at the bottom of the document, like a part or drawing would. This is the only type of tab I've seen that does not have a delete option in the context menu. Why can't I delete a DXF? Is this a bug?

I think it's a bug. I've found a workaround that proves the DXF is no longer needed after it's been inserted into a drawing.

    1. Import the DXF into a temporary document and give the document a version.
    2. Create the document where you actually want to design your templates.
    3. Create a drawing and insert the DXF from the temporary document.
    4. Delete the temporary document.
