Lattice of tubes

I want to create a linear lattice of tubes. When I try to use the tool, the direction I select always creates the pattern along the length and not the side. What am I missing?

Check your selection sequence. Quite important to line up miters and butt joints. All the parts may not be included in on frame feature.
