Starting Point to learn Onshape API

Hello, I am new to the Onshape API. I have used Onshape for designing mechanical automation systems for 6 months now. I have 10+ years of experience in mechanical design and using legacy 3D modelling software like SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCADetc.
I would like to know where I should start if I want to create API based automations for Onshape. Which programming language should I learn first? What should be the first step?
Any guidance is much appreciated.
