Is it possible to create a line (effectively a 3D spline) that is the intersection of two previously created curved faces?

There's not a great way. If the faces are part of solid bodies, you could:
- Make copies of the bodies
- Boolean union them together
- Use the edge created (as a curve for a sweep or whatever)
- Delete the new body.

Split feature can also be used to produce an edge in intersection0
