Re: Parts in my assembly have skewed axes of movement using planar mates.
I opened the document and it looks like everything moves ok. Did you figure it out? Nice job overall! Browsing through the document there are a couple of unrelated things I saw that would help simplify things for the next project. For off-the-shelf part imports, click the "create composite" option on the import. It makes… -
Collaborative work for an open project (3D printer)
Hi! I'm using Onshape for a few months, now, as a maker, for fun personal projects, and I recently made a simple workshop for a few people in the LOG, a french hackerspace based in Grenoble (https://www.logre.eu/wiki). 3 years ago, a nice project has been launched In this hackerspace: a 3D printer, based on the P3 Steel. A… -
Circular pattern failing without any message
In this part studio for a worm gear the main gear fails to generate properly when the Z1 parameter is changed to 2. The problem occurs in the Circular pattern 2 feature. The pattern should replicate the grove 20 times, but every second one fails. While editing the feature it looks as shown in this image. The red outline… -
Detailed gear parts affecting Onshape speed?
I've imported some gear shapes into Onshape Part Studios and now my assembly is sluggish when I attempt to starting mating components together. I used a program called Gearotic to specify the gear features (DP, # of teeth, and PA), exported that to a 2D DXF, imported the DXF into GeoMagic, to extrude the basic gear shape,… -
Custom Feature: Gear Rack
Realized I needed to design two gear racks for a robotics project, and rather than spend 20 minutes doing it manually, I wrote up a custom feature to automate it with some quality of life features (helical/herringbone teeth, fast regeneration, alignment stuff, blah blah blah) Snag it here if you'd like! 100 tooth regen… -
Connections array for opLoft not being applied
Hello! I have been working on creating a featurescript to loft together two identical spur gear profiles at a vertical and rotational (around Z) offset, creating a hyperboloidal profile. the gear profiles generate without issue, and there are no errors in the featurescript, in the code or generation, that are reported. The… -
Re: Updating Official Feature Scripts and Using the Updated Version
The backlash implementation that I provided is what the reference you posted calls Circumferential Backlash. You can also get backlash by changing the distance between gear centres, but in that case, the gears will no longer mesh using the proper involute. Normal backlash should be equivalent, where the Normal backlash is… -

Re: How to transition from a gear/shaft to a solid like a CNC milling bit would do
I did take a look. My son suggested that. It looks like you started with a sketch that was a circle of the outer gear diameter, but then you had a V representing the profile of the space between the gear teeth. You extruded that, then did something like a revolve to repeat the pattern around the entire gear. How did you… -
Bevel gears script?
Hi team Is there anyone who has a reliable way of generated bevel gears? There was a script that I found, but there are errors such that you couldn't extrude/ do any modifications for the shaft/ connections. Thought I'd ask, since the other gear script is so good! Best regards Peter PS: would be great to have a gear…
