Re: What is the proper practice to make these two bearings rotate together?
@cmot17 , You're asking great questions. There is often a compromise between modeling speed (FASTEN the bearings together with an offset) and expressing design intent. There are no universally right answers, just ever-present compromise. I am generally biased toward design intent. Be thoughtful and do what works best in… -
Re: Laser, water jet, maybe milling....
I could enter a lot of wants here but here are a few for laser/waterjet/plasma/punch/router 2D cutting CAM: 1) Nesting of parts: Optimize for best sheet yield set by parameters of the type of cutting you are doing. Store remnants of nests and drop created from nest for re use of sheets later on. 2) Direct link to CAD… -
Re: What am I not understanding (equal constraint 2 lines cannot be solved)
As has been mentioned, I believe it has to do with the number of constraints that are added to your sketch. I found that I didn’t have to add any extra constraints to the sketch myself. All I had to do was sketch the segments, add a couple dimensions, and then I could fully define the sketch, including the line segments… -
Re: Assemblies
I would like to share a type of top down approach which I used while designing assembly in Autodesk Inventor. 1. At the beginning one basic and reference part say "Base plate" is designed in which positions for other mating parts are already defined. After that base plate is called in assembly and fixed at default… -
Re: Design For Manfacturing Tool
@tom_scarince I hear what you're saying, but the logic escapes me. The idea behind 3D printing is that it's a one-off and I expect to pay more. However, I see zero sense paying a premium for incompetence, or poor investment decisions. Printed matter used to be laboriously reproduced by scribes. Every document was a… -

As a reminder, Onshape Live, our annual virtual user conference, is THIS WEEK! Join us March 1st (Americas) or March 2nd (Europe) to catch… -
Re: copy a sketch/features from one part studio to another still not possible in 2020?
@rune_thorsen229 Here is our intro video about configurations from when we released it: https://www.onshape.com/videos/introducing-onshape-configurations Our learning center also has lots of info on it: https://learn.onshape.com/catalog?query=configurations The reason I mention it is because if the goal of what you're… -

Gear Lab - Cylindrical, Bevel, Face Gears
Yup, it's another custom feature for gears. I had previously used Neil Cooke's excellent 'Spur Gear' feature [Link], but I wanted the ability to generate bevel and face gears as well. I only learned about Bob Tipton's great bevel gear FS after I had nearly finished this. I fear that my "Gear Lab" custom feature is largely… -
Re: Better way to make a whiffle ball?
@josh_smith_, very nice work on this model! I've got a couple thoughts that you might consider. In Sketch 1 it appears that your design intent is to specify the diameter of this ball, whereas Onshape dimensions arcs radially. There are ways to bend Onshape to your will. Anytime you create a center-line (dashed construction…
