Re: New Custom Feature: Animate
I was thinking, it would be really neat if the animate feature had an option to create a closed loop, like this.
This timeline was made using the animate feature, then wrapping the timeline to a cylinder. Took a few work arounds. But I'm sure you could do it in many less features, this was just a proof of concept:
I borrowed the original model from @yip_cm

Have to agree that a folder structure on the left would be a more "normal" way of doing it… And also more efficient as once you go into a folder you don't see the upper levels anymore and you have to go back from the path at the top to go back down somewhere else.
Maybe that's a case where re-inventing the wheel doesn't make sense and the good old expandable tree is a proven way of doing this!
Other than that there's some good stuff in here for sure!
Got an awesome model I can demo in a video?
Hi forum! I'm in the process of re-creating some videos I made some years back when I was still at the agency I co-founded, Ovyl. Since I've exited, those videos have been taken down from the Ovyl Youtube channel (as they should be), but I've had a number of people ask me where they are saying they'd love to share them with their teams, so I want to re-create updated versions of some of them.
I'm starting with the one about "Levels of CAD" ("Your CAD Should Suck!") because it's such an important, but under-appreciated concept for CAD teams and is the foundation of other important concepts to come. I previously used models from the agency, but this time I'd love to show real-world examples of solid level 3 models (models that are lightweight, navigable, and robust). If you have a model that you're proud of and isn't confidential, DM me. Ideally one you've made professionally for production. I might feature it and give you credit for it.
p.s. if you have no idea what I mean by "Levels of CAD" you can subscribe to The Onsherpa Youtube channel to find out when it drops.
Re: Improvements to Onshape - June 27th, 2025
I'm very confused. Does the new file organization UI help anyone? I don't understand why I would want to open a folder and have 2 separate windows for folders and documents. Please at least give us an option to keep the old UI. I love Onshape, but this is very frustrating.
Edit: if you watch the "DOCUMENTS PAGE" video, some of the new features with the columns and stuff seem pretty useful, but having 2 separate windows open up is just so clunky especially since they are split horizontally. If the left hand side was folders and the right hand side was documents that would make a little more sense.

Re: Public document search is bizarrely limited!
i'd love to see a sort by copies and links as well
