Holding down the "option" key on Mac or the "alt" key on windows………what about Linux? Should I follow the windows because I do not have an "option" key?
I like the look of this and will experiment to see how it works. Often the section feature is needed to assemble things so this could be easier.
Nice work as always.
Re: add ability to convert variables to variable studio
I think this could be a handy functionality.
You may already be aware, but you can create a variable of the same name in the variable studio and then delete them in the original part studio and it should work. For example if you made #wallThickness in a part studio, but then decided it's best for a whole project, you could also make #wallThickness in the Variable Studio and delete the variable feature (so it doesn't overwrite the variable studio). This isn't too bad of a workflow for one variable here and there, but would be a pain for a lot at once.

Nice nice, looking forward to next release with new features. Hopefully some of the background stuff allows the sheet metal loft to progress and get released.
Can we also get the SORT FOLDERS IN "MOVE TO..." DIALOG. treatment applied to the "Insert Parts and Assemblies" window, make window size adjustable and be able to sort list?
How to remove overlapping sketch lines and sketch to dxf producing multiple layers
I'm creating a design for laser cutting fabrication. I'm usually exporting a surface face to DXF, which works great. For a certain cut, I wanted to use a sketch, as it efficiently produces the dxf to cut multiple faces together that aren't on a shared face, but a shared sketch.
I found that the dxf file had two layers, which caused the laser cutter to make 2 passes. I had to manually delete the overlapping lines in the laser cutter software which is tedious. There may be an efficient method to do this in DXF software, but I'm not savvy with that.
I went to inspect the sketch and found that there are indeed multiple lines overlapping. If i click on a line and delete it, there is still another line there. I'm not sure how this occurred, but possibly using things like the "project" tool.
My question is, is there a way to collapse overlapping lines in a sketch into a single line, or otherwise get around this issue of multiple layers being exported in the DXF when using the sketch as the source and not a solid face?
Re: Export in free version?
What's the export failure? In what sense can you not put an image into a sketch? Can you share screenshots or, better, a link to the document?
If something feels buggy, file a support ticket. Our support folks are extraordinarily responsive.

Re: Noob needs help, creating a slight countor /curve
build the bottom plate according to the contour you'd like with an intersected extrude from the right plane. (is it bent only in one direction?)
then sweep the coutour over that.
Then finish with blends at the end.
Re: Any way to increase the size of dimension entry?
Right click page or hit F12 to inspect. Paste the following in the console and hit enter.
let width = 30; // % browser width
let style = document.createElement('style');
document.head.appendChild(style);
style.innerHTML = `.dimension-edit-container .ns-feature-parameter .bti-numeric-text, .dimension-edit-container os-quantity-parameter input {width: ${width}vw!important;} .dimension-edit {max-width: ${width}vw!important;}`;
Change '30' above to desired width as a percent of the browser's. This will stay active until you refresh the page.

Replace with more than one face! Yeah! :0)
Re: Improvements to Onshape - May 16th, 2025
These are some tasty improvements!! The new Replace Face functionality is going to make adjusting floor levels that much easier!
