Re: Will PTC ever let the use of OnShape for makers/individuals free from any monetary concessions?
As far as I can tell Onshape makes no claims to IP on the free plan, but work done on it does become essentially open for anyone to use and reuse.
That's the tradeoff. Onshape doesn't have to be a free resource.
That there isn't a hobbyist tier for a more modest amount of cash is another matter!
Re: Gear keeps snapping into place (help!)
You can edit the rotation of the mate connector used, or you can assign an angle to the mate itself to create the right abount of offset needed for the starting position. Then add min/max limits to keep it in a range that makes sense.
Re: Traceability for copied documents (Add Source Document's name and Author to Start point)
I'm agree with evanreese.
it would be nice if copies could be traced back to the original.
I'm teacher and i don't know if all my students make the job or copy an old one.

@Jason_S Certainly from a modeling perspective being able to add a flange along a variable curvature edge would be a huge step forward as long as the resulting non-developable features can still be flattened. Being able to flatten it is the key concern with a flange feature like this.
Re: Align Views to each other
@Otto_DeRuntz It's known and on our list of things to get to.

For desktop, look at Sherline or Taig lathes and mills with CNC upgrades. For a little larger machines look at Tormach or Syil. There are also numerous CNC routers if yu want to do wood and softer metals, like aluminum.
