Re: Texture (New Custom Feature!)
Thank you for your hard work @MichaelPascoe; this is really useful in the design of the product visualization.
Re: New Custom Feature: Animate
Wow! What a great feature! 👏
Also the kind of thing that makes me feel dumb by the way… 🤪

Re: Remove tap drill size from hole callout on drawing
Yes, @onshape, please remove tap drill size from threaded hole callout on Drawings, or make it something that can be toggled.
Re: Replacing drawing reference through the API
I'm attempting the same thing. The difficulty is that if you duplicate your "template" drawing and transfer it to another document, the reference becomes a version reference…and I'm having trouble updating them.
My workflow is:
- Duplicate template drawing AND part studio tabs
- Update the duplicated drawing references to the duplicated part studio
- Do a "move tab to other document" including the referenced tab (this ensures that when it gets transferred into the destination document it becomes a microversion reference instead of a version reference)
- Update the drawing to your desired final part references (should only require an elementId as before)
- delete the extra part studio tab
Its a lot of steps, but it works….
Re: AI Assist for PDF management
Yes, of course. But did you consider we're in the age of networks and rather than adding everything to everything time and again, we should aim to connect things, so we could use resources more sustainably and targeted by just giving them access to the data we want to be processed?
So you got that PDF file you want to have translated/converted/explained. The sensible way would be to grant the AI of your choice read access to the document and let it do its magic. I am all for discussing such kind of interface, which would open up ways to let all types of AI interact with all types of data we have, whenever we want to. The right tool for the job at hand. So, for me, this whole thing is not about a PDF manager.
Re: AI Assist for PDF management
It's not that it doesn't work sometimes, it's that the reliability is far too low for all serious applications where the consequences of error are significant at this point in time, and not only is the error rate far too high, it's not even predictable. And on top of that, they're an area of active research. They are simply unpredictable and non-deterministic.
Then there's the implementation and development effort, which is enormous. The availability of models from many large corporations belies the logistical difficulty in implementing one and the costs and hardware needed to train and run it.
CAD is simply not a suitable industry for early adoption of a poorly understood fledgling technology. Indeed, I'm already seeing many companies with policies that require such a significant amount of disclosure and supporting evidence for accuracy of output for any use of AI LL models in design that it's not viable.
It's great you're an early adopter. AI development needs people like you, but for those for whom AI assistance needs to be a tool, not an interest, it's not there yet - and that's who pays for CAD.
It does have its place, but doing research for you is not it.

Re: ARM64 Support - Snapdragon X Elite
@parker_bradshaw589 please hold off on your purchase. Two different people reached out to me internally and pointed out that there is an open issue with Snapdragon(R) X Elite - X1E80100 and Onshape.
I'm not sure if it's something that we are going to be able to fix or if it's an issue with the Snapdragon.
My apologies for the incorrect information!
