Re: Is it possible to make a self-intersecting sweep?Who knows what tools can be used to do such work.
The "pattern and sweep" FS should let you do a bunch of sweeps from the same profile in one go as separate parts then you can boolean together.
This might a quicker way to get the end result.
Re: Is it possible to make a self-intersecting sweep?Who knows what tools can be used to do such work.
my original suggestion. a series of unconnected sweeps that booleaned together after some tweaking of the ends and such with extrusions and a loft for the sharp corner at the bottom left.

Re: This type of error makes my experience of onshape incredibly frustrating
In my experience with other CAD systems, (NX mostly) there are often inconsistencies in behaviour for the same or similar operations.
it is my understanding that this is sometimes caused by the tiny differences in the tolerances of the geometry underlying. where talking about the difference between 4.999999999999 and 5.000000000000001 (I'm not sure how many 0's Onshape uses).
I was trying to replicate your issue and it was very easy, so it may also be the 'weakness' of this chamfer algorithm. a face-blend set to chamfer is a more robust tool, (but also more comprehensive and therefore worse UI).
It was also solved by switching from 1x45 degrees to an equal distance chamfer.
The best solution is to never draw symmetrical parts as a whole. Only draw half and mirror (or pattern for rotational symmetry).
This will also save you time (clicks) and performance, and can prevent accidental assymmetries (if you forget to click both sides).
after the mirror for my parts, there are only intentional assymetric geometry changes. (often logo's and poke-yoke features).
Re: This type of error makes my experience of onshape incredibly frustrating
I think it's just a bug, probably in the kernel. My guess is that the tangent option is not frequently used. We filed it and the part studios team will take a look.
Render Battle #6 - Coffee time ☕(Winner gets a real Prize!)
Render Battle #6 - Coffee Time!
It's time to kick off 2025 and welcome everyone to the sixth Onshape unofficial render battle!
All forum users are welcome to participate and or judge the renders. (The Onshape team included. 😎)
Prize!!
1st place will receive the very first, official Render Battle Jersey Hoodie! The hoodie comes in two options which the winner can choose either (color) or (dark) and it will be ordered to size and shipped to the winner as soon as the battle ends. 2nd place will not get a hoodie, but they will achieve the mentionable Buzz Aldrin Award =).
How it works:
- Whoever creates the most legit render using this Coffee Mug will win the battle!
The winner will also be added to the Render Battle "Hall of Fame" list for all future battles.
Rules:
- Render must fall into the specified topic.
- You may use the provided pre-modeled studio or your own. Feel free to model any additions to make your renders stand out!
- Use Render studio or reality server for rendering.
- Have fun!
Voting:
- Render submission date March 1st 2025.
- All entries must be submitted here before the submission date.
- Anyone can vote!
- Voters account must be created before the date of this post to deter self or friend voting.
- Votes must be from relatively active forum members, not newly created accounts.
- Voting will last for 1 week after the submission date.
- The render with the most votes wins. (Tie breakers will be determined by likes.)
Hall of Fame:
Winners of previous Render Battles:
- Winner of Render Battle #1 - June 2022 - @sebastian_glanzner
- Winner of Render Battle #2 - November 2022 - @Axel_Kollmenter
- Winner of Render Battle #3 - June 2023 - @richard_doyle
- Winner of Render Battle #4 - September 2023 - @MichaelPascoe
- Winner of Render Battle #5 - December 2023 - @bryan_lagrange
Re: Transform Tool in Part Studio is hard/uncomfortable/slow to use
We should not think that everything not parametric is per se a "Mesh Modeler" and look down on it. There are other approaches out there to handle transformations in geometry, and some of them feel much more advanced and are so much faster than what we get to know when we learn Onshape. I did in fact feel like traveling back in time say 20 years, but it is apparently just me. I admit: The best way to deal with transfortm tool is not to use it. ;0)
Is it possible to create a Composite Part in an assembly?
Is that possible? is there a easy way to do it?
Re: Improvements to Onshape - January 10th, 2025
@Chris_D_Mentes_001 Got it. I think this will be solved once we implement configured properties wildcards.
Add version to drawing
Is there a way to add the name of the current version (or Main) to a drawing? I see the ability to add various properties in a Note (and "revision" looks really attractive) but none of them look like the versioning info. People never remember to update the revision manually but they do version for sharing.
Alternatively, a poor cousin of this would be to have a "last updated" timestamp. There is a last updated date but when you iterate many times in the same day it gets confusing.

Just waiting for 3 bend corner relief to be added to sheet metal in Onshape so that I can move on from Fusion 360…
