Best method for drawing a trailer frame made with 4” C channel

I am new to Onshape and trying to create a 3d model of a trailer frame and then produce shop drawings for the guy in the shop. If I sketch it then use the beam feature, the dimensioned lines are correct in the sketch but the beam places the hoist beams at the back of the C-channel making the true dimension 22.5 to the front instead of 24”. Should I draw each individual piece and create an assembly?
