Extract Sketch from Old Revision

I want to extract a sketch from an old Revision. I looked for alternatives:
1. make a copy, but then it doesn't copy the revision history
2. enter an old revision, but I can't move a tab from the revision to a new document
What is the proper procedure here?
Also, when I right click a revision, it says "branch to create workspace"; what does this do?
