Removing mate/unfixing part breaks assembly

My biggest gripe with Onshape: the fact that in large assemblies if I remove a mate or unfix a part, scores of completely unrelated mates break---emphasis on completely unrelated. This happens a lot in large assemblies with deep hierarchies.

This is the equivalent of unfixing a wheel hub from an axle only to find the mates in the steering linkage and the suspension mechanism all suddenly broken. Car mechanics would be in trouble if the real thing worked this way.

Am I the only one running into this issue?
