Variable for quantity of pattern

OnShape won't accept a variable to define the quantity in a linear pattern in a sketch. I think this is because the dimensions shows as "40x" instead of just "40", and I can't use letters to define the variable regardless of whether I define it as a number, length, or "any" category. Is there a way around this?

I believe this functionality just isn't supported for sketch patterns at the moment.

You can indeed drive a linear sketch pattern by a variable.

Perhaps your error is that the variable occurs below the sketch in history order?

@alan_baljeu when I copy your model and edit the variable it only changes the part pattern, not the sketch pattern. Can you check again to see if it is actually working for you?

It seems it doesn't work after all.  Seemed to work when I created it, but no, not allowed.
