How can I make a sketch wrap around a non-cylindrical surface?

I'm trying to make a detail on a helmet that wraps around the side of the helmet (similar to the vertical one in the picture), but I don't know how to do that and the wrap tool doesn't work because its not a cylindrical surface. How can I do this?

Unfortunately, there isn't much you can do with a projected curve once it's made. If it's closed, you can turn it into a surface. But you can't use it to extrude or split.
