"Engraving" a sketch into a solid revolve.

Hi! I am fairly new to on shape, and 3d modeling in general. I am trying to somehow add an "engrave" of the star on Captain America's shield onto the shield. This is very hard because the solid object is curved. I was wondering if there was some way to do this. I will attach a picture below for more context. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

One way to do this would be to:
- Create a plane above your part offset from the top plane
- Sketch the star on that plane
- Extrude remove the star up to the face of your curved face. Offset the extrude into the part
