Plains, are they a physical item or...?

Hi all!
I am new to here OnShape and CAD I general. For plains, when I use them are they a physical item? For example, if i put a piece of tube on one side of the plain and another piece of tube on the other side of the plain would the two pieces of tube be touching or is the plain a certain thickness?

yes, the two pieces of tube are touching , and no thickness for any plane!5
