Why do mate connectors spontaneously appear and not turn off?

I have had this issue happen to a few of my students recently. We are working in an Assembly tab and all of the mate connectors randomly turn on and will not go away, even after hiding the mate connectors. It's very distracting and makes mating difficult. See screenshot below. Thanks!

    I would file a support ticket within Onshape to see what support has to say. It may be a visual bug or something of that sort. Are there a lot of students shared into each document or do they each have their own they are working in?
