how to make a linear pattern out of a removement?

Hey, I would like to replicate the red marked cutout (Linear austragen 3):
But as soon as I click on the cutout ("Linear austragen 3") it marks the box "elements for pattern" ("Elemente für Muster") red.
Even if I select the direction/s first.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks!

Hi @Voyager, it looks like you have already removed the material with that extrude, then you are trying to remove it again.
Here is one way you can fix this: try changing that extrude remove to Extrude New. Then linear pattern remove the extruded part.
