Loft pics up unwanted sketch

I'm trying to loft from the larger circle to a smaller circle but the edge of the cylinder auto-projects onto the plan and the loft tool picks it up. Is there a way to suppress the projection of the edge of the cylinder onto the sketch plane? Please see gif

The sketch has a "Disable imprinting" option. Alternately, you can select both the inner and outer faces of the first sketch into the first loft profile.1
