Howto simplify my sketch?

I would like to construct the strips shown in the first picture, which follow an elipse.
In the sketch (second picture) you can see my complicated construction with a linear pattern and a manually added rectangle to intersect the eliptical construction line.
Does anyone have an idea for a simpler way?
I did not manage to bind the linear pattern directly to the elliptical construction line.

I didn't show it in the gif but I would finish the sheet metal model after to turn all the parts into regular solid geometry. This method works with sheet metal because Onshape automatically keeps sheet metal edges perpendicular to the sheet metal face.

That's pretty clever. I wouldn't have thought of that.
