Sharing data within a document

What is the best way to share an assembly with a supplier using 'Linkshare', without having to share the entire document? It seems that it is only possible to linkshare the entire document. So, if I were to move the sub-assembly to a new document will all my references to that new sub-assembly follow perfectly inside the old document?
