Is there a way to assign a material or custom material to a assembly?

We often receive models from outside suppliers and spend time manipulating the models to adhere to our standards. Typically, the supplier imported model contains a main assembly, multiple sub-assemblies, and a Part Studio that each import into separate tabs within the OS document. As part of our standards, we include a column indicating the part material in our main assembly BOM. For individual parts, we simply assign a material to a part in the imported Part Studio, which then populates the main assembly BOM. However, we will occasionally use one or more of the imported sub-assemblies to reduce the amount of work required to "rebuild" the assembly from scratch (the "Group" feature is our best friend for these). The problem we've encountered with this is the inability to assign material to these sub-assemblies (i.e. the material for a purchased motor would be "Steel + Copper" or the material for the screw cover shown below would be "Steel + ABS" due to the ring being CRS and the insert being ABS).
Is there a way to assign a custom material to an assembly? TIA!

In the subassembly you can select the whole group of parts and override mass and CofG from mass properties, See balance icon lower right. Very convenient if you only know mass of assy.

You can also display mass in BOM and modify mass properties individually.

Option 3 is to modify individual mass properties and CofG in part studio.

Material can also be changed in PS or assy BOM.

I'm not concerned with the mass and CofG for the subassemblies. I am trying to simply indicate the material in the BOM. So instead of "N/A" it would say the material or combination of materials.
