Creating Elbow Joint for a pipe from Sketch??

I am new to onshape and CAD, and trying to learn various techniques.
I understand creating an elbow joint would be a easy task with "Sweep".
However, I thought it would be easier if I traced the side profile from an image and then somehow extrude it into a cylinder shape, which I cannot figure out how.
The main reason I did not use Sweep feature is to save the ridge at each end.
