replicate parts in assembly to sketch?

Hello,
is it possible to replicate parts in assembly to sketch geometry/ vertex/ points? only faces seem to work.
using only linear or circular patterns are often too limiting.
I'm trying to position and instance parts based on a parametric sketch layout. as a sort of top down parametric model .
(there is a feature in part studio based on featurescript, [Updated] Point pattern custom feature — Onshape, with this type of functionality, unfortunately no FS for assemblies)
possible use: position welding studs on sheetmetal parts (or position geometry without a real geometry/face counterpart, based on coordinates) position of posts for a construction based on layout plan...
basically this would allow to sketch out general positions an configurations and position parts or subassemblies relative to this "skeleton" (cfr skeleton models in CREO)
