Create loft off projected curve while using 3d spline as guide

I'm trying to create a loft from these 2 curved loops and the final closing vertex. I created this 3d spline as a guide connecting each edge. However, there isn't a vertex on the project curve onto the cylinder so I can't connect the spline to it so it fails as a guide if I try to loft from there.

In the picture I'm testing with the original curve inside of the cylinder before I projected it.

Thanks for any advice.
