Step file issue - importing in a empty Part Studio

I have several step files of sprockets, which original generated Part Studios for each.
I deleted the part studios I did not need over time, but Step files remained in my document.
Now, later on in the design process, I need one of the sprockets but only a Step file tab is available.
I opened a new Part Studio, but cannot find an import nor derived part of this Step file.
How to import the Step file from the existing tab?
