Tried to extrude a surface got ' NO MERGE SCOPE SELECTED'

@james_murphy562, at the top of the extrude dialog box, there are some merge options (new, add, subtract, intersect). If you don't want it to merge with anything, select "new" instead of "add". If you did want to merge the extrude with another part, you would need to select which parts you want in the merge scope dialog down near the bottom of the extrude dialog box.
