having difficulty shelling an object

Hi I'm new to onshape and i'm trying to figure out why it doesn't let me shell my object. It shows red with a bar of grey running down. I have attached an image. Please help!

    If you want to share a public document, perhaps someone can help. Typical issues will be that the surfaces have some weird curvature that's not obvious on first glance. Also, starting with a very small shell thickness (assuming that is successful) and then working your way up to the value you intended may yield some clues.
