Is there a way to add the vertical heights of every point on 2 parts?

So if I have 2 parts intersecting each other, can you somehow add the vertical heights together (ie not just using the union function).
For the example provided below, I'm looking for a function that would take in the chevron and the arc and output the sketch above (except for parts not sketches)
Note: this example is very oversimplified from what I am trying to.
