Sheet metal flange unequal

How to make flange with unequal distance, I tried to make separate sheet metal and tried to merge but no luck. pls help.

You will need to create the flange at the maximum required length and then do an extrude/remove to create the tapered geometry.

wWhat!! I tried this before, but it didn't work. Then I realized I was using the vertex entity, which is why my flange would always come out with equal distances. Thank you so much for this simple yet very enlightening lesson.
