Can I add a Variable Table in a drawing

Otto_DeRuntzOtto_DeRuntz Member Posts: 10 PRO
I saw this question, but the only reply was to search help for variable.
I did that and could not find an answer, or I missed it.

I am trying to add dimensional values from my part into a table in a drawing.
Either by inserting the variable table or individual dimensions.

Can I?

I have sense learned the answer is NO. It has become an improvement request.
I do believe it is a Very Valuable Improvement Request!

I have tables in some drawings that reference part dimensions and variable values that I have to manually input, thus opening the way for errors.

There are some work arounds for this. Just recently they added the ability to paste from a spreadsheet into a drawing table. So I think it would be possible to copy and paste from a variable table into a drawing (perhaps with a Google sheet as an intermediary?). I haven't tried this. Of course it wouldn't be parametric, but at least you could get the info from one place to another without retyping.

Also there are some things with cut list tables which can be put in drawings.

@MichaelPascoe may be able to help more.

    I've never used it.

Yes, you could input the variables one at a time into the Table custom feature which would then keep them up to date. This would be a pain but would work.

Alternatively, you could keep your variables in Excel or Google sheets then import them as a csv which the table feature can read and create variables for. Then to update, you just right click your csv and select "update" which will prompt you for the new csv file.

I was looking into a way to copy the variable table then put it directly into the Table feature, but FeatureScript doesn't appear to recognize the new line separator "\n" when pasting the variable table into the input. There still may be a way.

There is probably a way to do this with the api if you went the expensive route.
