Can assemblies have mate connectors?

ron_morelandron_moreland Member Posts: 90 ✭✭
I have an assemby that I want to fasten to another assembly. Can I create a mate connector for one assembly and fasten it to a mate connector in another assembly?

You can create a mate connector at the origin of an assembly. Just make sure that you mate the parts in your assembly to that MC or the origin. If you use a Fix mate, that will be ignored in higher level assemblies (don't ask me why, but that's how it works).

When you create the mate connector at the origin, you can choose for it to point along the X, Y or Z axis. Default is that it will point up (positive-Z), but you can hold shift and move around before letting go of the mouse to choose the other directions.

Do I need to mate each element in the assembly? I would think being an assembly that would come for free.

In the assembly, you can mate one part to the origin, and then group all the parts. If you don't do something to mate (or group) them, they will have complete freedom to be dragged around - most likely not what you want.
