Modelling Welds and welding maps

Oliver_CouchOliver_Couch Member Posts: 229 PRO

I work for a fabrication company so all of my work involves welds.

For safety critical items such as pressure vessels and lifting equipment I need to produce drawings which include weld maps.

Here's an explainer on weld maps: https://qualityinspectionforms.com/blog/what-is-weld-mapping

Each weld must have its own weld (part) number and weld material, as well as traceability for the weld material used. It may also require weld preparation instructions. Associated with this are various procedures and welder approvals for the type of weld. And inspection/NDT reports.

What's the best way to go about this in On-shape?

My first thought is to use sweeps to generate weld "parts" which can then be used for weld map generation. Is there a feature script that can automate some of this process, and help with drawing creation?

I have never made weld maps, so I don't know the best workflow. I have used this feature script when I need to show a weld. It creates a part for each weld, which you should then be able to assign properties to.
