Is there a way to merge/connect a new shape to a import?

In the part studio I am trying to make a new object that connects to an import object I downloaded, but the issue I am having is that the union feature does not work and in order to bring both objects to the assembly I need them to be considered 1 object. is there any way to combine theses parts together?

Are the fins on the side actually intersecting the imported shape? If they are only touching at a point or line, Onshape's kernel (Parasolid) can't handle it.
Can you share a public document?
Yes I believe it might have fins but I'm not sure how to fix this issue.
This is the public document I created:https://cad.onshape.com/documents/e30b3626202e1559e6ef9d17/w/905974c6502c8822901f3865/e/87e41c08bacdc99d608cd022?renderMode=0&uiState=66e9d270e59771385f31fd10
